FAQ

Here you'll find answers to our most frequently asked questions. We've gathered everything you need to help you feel informed, confident, and supported throughout your journey with Vaalberg.

About our diamonds

What is a lab-grown diamond?

A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond created in a controlled laboratory environment using advanced technology that replicates the natural diamond formation process. It has the same chemical, physical, and optical properties as a mined diamond.

Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds. They have the same crystal structure, brilliance, hardness, and chemical composition as natural diamonds. The only difference is their origin, one is created above ground in a laboratory, while the other is formed naturally deep within the earth.

How are lab-grown diamonds made?

Lab-grown diamonds are created using advanced technology that replicates the conditions under which natural diamonds form. Through processes such as CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) or HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature), diamond crystals are grown and then carefully cut, polished, and graded just like natural diamonds.

What’s the difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds?

The main difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds is their origin. Natural diamonds are formed deep within the earth over billions of years, while lab-grown diamonds are created in controlled laboratory environments using advanced technology.

Both have the same chemical composition, physical properties, and brilliance. The difference lies in rarity, origin, and the way they are produced.

Quality & Certification

Are your diamonds certified?

Yes. Our diamonds are independently graded and certified by recognized gemological laboratories IGI or GIA. Each certified diamond includes a grading report

The certificate also confirms whether the diamond is lab-grown and provides identifying information for verification.

Can I see the grading certificate before purchasing?

Yes. You can download the grading certificate directly from the diamond you're viewing. Every diamond includes its own certificate, so you can review all the details before making your purchase.

You'll also receive a printed copy of the certificate in the package together with your diamond.

Which grading laboratories do you use?

We work exclusively with diamonds graded by the world's most trusted gemological laboratories: IGI (International Gemological Institute) and GIA (Gemological Institute of America).

Every diamond is independently certified, giving you complete confidence in its quality and authenticity.

What do the 4Cs (cut, color, clarity, carat) mean?

The 4Cs are the global standard used to evaluate a diamond’s quality and help you understand the characteristics that make each diamond unique. They stand for Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat.

When choosing a diamond, it’s important to look at the balance between the 4Cs rather than focusing on one factor alone. Cut is often the most important element, as it determines how beautifully the diamond reflects light and creates its sparkle. Color and clarity influence the diamond’s appearance, while carat refers to the diamond’s weight and size.

A well-balanced combination of the 4Cs allows you to choose a diamond that offers exceptional beauty, quality, and value. Our diamonds are carefully selected to provide the perfect balance between brilliance and price, helping you find a diamond you can feel confident in.

If your ring does not fit as expected, please contact us at hello@vaalberg.com, and our team will provide personalized guidance and help you find the best possible solution.

The options available depend on the ring you have purchased and the type of adjustment needed.

To help ensure the best possible fit, we recommend carefully measuring your finger before placing your order.

Pricing & Value

Why are lab-grown diamonds cheaper than mined diamonds?

Lab-grown diamonds are more affordable because they can be produced in a controlled environment, making the process more efficient and scalable than traditional diamond mining. They are also less expensive to produce, as they don't require mining, large-scale extraction, or complex supply chains.

A lower price does not mean lower quality. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical to mined diamonds. They are graded using the same international standards and can offer the same exceptional brilliance, durability, and beauty at a more accessible price.

Do lab-grown diamonds hold their value?

The short answer: usually not in the same way natural diamonds historically have. Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds, but resale value and purchase value are different things.

Do you offer financing or installment payments?

No. We currently do not offer financing or installment payment options.

Are there hidden fees or taxes?

No. All prices include VAT, and no additional fees or hidden charges will be applied at checkout.

How to choose the right diamond

How do I choose the right diamond?

Choosing the right diamond depends on what you're buying it for. An engagement ring, necklace, and pair of earrings are worn differently, so the ideal balance of the 4Cs – Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat can vary depending on the piece.

When selecting a diamond, we recommend focusing on the overall balance rather than a single characteristic. A well-cut diamond will maximize brilliance and sparkle, while the right combination of color, clarity, and carat will depend on your personal preferences, style, and budget.

Every diamond at Vaalberg is carefully selected to meet our high quality standards, making it easier to choose a diamond you'll love for years to come. If you'd like personalized guidance, our team is always happy to help you find the perfect diamond for your needs. Contact us at hello@vaalberg.com.

How do I choose the right diamond for an Dimond bracelet?

When choosing a diamond bracelet, the overall look is more important than the individual grade of each diamond. Since bracelets are viewed as a complete piece, the diamonds should be well matched in size, color, and sparkle to create a balanced and elegant appearance.

We recommend prioritizing matching, total carat weight, and cut over exceptionally high color or clarity grades. A bracelet with consistently matched diamonds will often appear more beautiful than one with higher individual grades but less visual harmony.

For the best balance of beauty and value, we typically recommend:

  • Cut: Very Good–Excellent for maximum brilliance
  • Color: G–I for a bright, consistent appearance
  • Clarity: VS2–SI1 for an eye-clean look
  • Total Carat Weight (TCW): Choose based on your preferred style—from delicate everyday sparkle to a bold statement piece.

Whether you prefer a timeless tennis bracelet or a more modern design, a well-balanced selection of diamonds will ensure a beautiful piece you'll enjoy for years to come.

How do I choose the right diamond for an Dimond Earrings?

When choosing diamond earrings, the most important factor is that both diamonds are beautifully matched. Since they are worn as a pair, they should have a consistent appearance in size, cut, color, and sparkle to create a balanced and elegant look.

For the best combination of beauty and value, we recommend prioritizing matching, cut, and carat weight over exceptionally high color or clarity grades. A well-cut pair of diamonds will maximize brilliance, while a balanced combination of color and clarity will ensure a bright, eye-clean appearance.

For most customers, we recommend:

  • Cut: Excellent for maximum brilliance
  • Color: G–H for a bright, white appearance
  • Clarity: VS2–SI1 for an eye-clean look
  • Carat: Choose the size that best suits your style, from subtle everyday elegance to a more striking statement.

If you're creating a pair of diamond earrings, we're happy to help you find two perfectly matched loose diamonds for exceptional balance, brilliance, and beauty.

How do I choose the right diamond for an Engagement Ring?

Choosing a diamond for an engagement ring is a personal decision, where the perfect balance between beauty, quality, and value is key. Since the diamond is the centerpiece of the ring, we recommend focusing on cut first, as it has the greatest impact on the diamond’s brilliance and sparkle.

The right combination of the 4Cs – Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat depends on your personal style and preferences. A beautifully cut diamond with excellent light performance can often appear more impressive than a larger diamond with lower cut quality.

For many engagement rings, we recommend:

  • Cut: Excellent for maximum brilliance and sparkle
  • Color: G–H for a beautiful white appearance with excellent value
  • Clarity: VS2–SI1 for an eye-clean diamond without compromising beauty
  • Carat: Choose a size that feels right for your style and the design of the ring

Our advice: Prioritize cut and overall beauty over size alone. The most memorable diamonds are the ones that capture the light beautifully and feel perfect for the person wearing them.

What carat size should I buy?

The right carat size depends on your personal style, budget, and how you want the diamond to be experienced. While a larger diamond can create more presence, carat size is only one part of what makes a diamond beautiful. A well-balanced combination of carat, cut, color, clarity, and design often creates the most stunning result.

Our recommendation:

  • If value is your priority: Choose a carat size that allows you to prioritize an excellent cut for maximum brilliance and sparkle.
  • If presence is your priority: Consider a larger carat size while maintaining a good balance in color and clarity.
  • If balance is your priority: Choose the largest diamond that still offers a bright, eye-clean appearance.

A good guideline:

  • Engagement rings: Choose a size that feels elegant and proportional on the hand.
  • Necklaces: Consider how visible and impactful you want the diamond to appear.
  • Earrings: Focus on comfort, symmetry, and matching diamonds.
  • Bracelets: Prioritize overall harmony and balance across the piece rather than individual stone size.

At Vaalberg, we believe the perfect diamond is not always the biggest one — it is the one that offers the right balance of beauty, quality, and value for you.

Which diamond shape is most popular?

The most popular diamond shape is the round brilliant cut, known for its exceptional sparkle and timeless elegance. Its carefully designed facets maximize light reflection, making it a classic choice for engagement rings and fine jewelry.

The right diamond shape depends on your personal style, the jewelry design, and how you want the diamond to look when worn. At Vaalberg, we are happy to guide you in choosing a shape that feels truly yours.
