Responsible sourcing
Where our diamonds come from
At VAALBERG, transparency and quality are at the heart of everything we do.
The laboratory-grown diamonds we offer are real diamonds, with the same chemical composition, crystal structure and optical properties as naturally mined diamonds. The key difference is their origin: instead of being formed deep within the earth over billions of years, they are grown in a controlled laboratory environment using advanced technology that replicates the natural diamond-growing process..

01Diamond Sourcing & Transparency
VAALBERG exclusively offers laboratory-grown diamonds. We do not purchase, hold or sell mined (natural) diamonds, and we do not operate a mixed inventory.
The laboratory-grown diamonds we offer are sourced through carefully selected and reputable manufacturers and suppliers. We conduct appropriate supplier due diligence and require relevant documentation relating to the diamonds we purchase, including certification and product information.
All laboratory-grown diamonds are clearly identified as laboratory-grown throughout our website, product information, invoices and other relevant commercial documentation. Where a diamond is independently certified, the applicable certificate number is published on the individual product page and provided with the diamond.
02Independent certification
Every laboratory-grown diamond we offer is independently graded by a recognised gemmological laboratory, such as IGI or GIA, before being made available for sale. VAALBERG does not grade or certify its own diamonds, and we do not offer uncertified diamonds.
The certification process provides an independent assessment of each individual diamond and documents its key characteristics, including carat weight, colour, clarity, cut and measurements, as well as confirming its laboratory-grown origin.
For every certified diamond:
- The certificate number is displayed on the individual product page and can be independently verified through the issuing gemmological laboratory.
- The full grading report is available to view before purchase, providing customers with access to the same certification information on which the product specifications are based.
- All diamond specifications presented on the VAALBERG website, including carat weight, colour, clarity, cut and measurements, are taken directly from the relevant laboratory grading report and are not based on an internal VAALBERG assessment.
- The certificate relates to the specific individual diamond, identified by its unique certificate number and corresponding characteristics.
Because each diamond is individually graded and documented, the certification provided for a product corresponds to the specific diamond being offered and supplied to the customer.
This independent certification process is an important part of VAALBERG's commitment to transparency, documented product information and responsible diamond sourcing.
03Clear Disclosure of Laboratory-Grown Origin
The laboratory-grown origin of every diamond offered by VAALBERG is clearly and consistently disclosed throughout the customer journey. This information is stated in the product title, product description, technical specifications and relevant commercial documentation, including invoices and certification.
We use clear and established terminology such as “laboratory-grown” or “lab-grown” to identify the origin of the diamonds we offer. Laboratory-grown diamonds are never presented as mined or natural diamonds, and the distinction between laboratory-grown and naturally mined diamonds is maintained consistently across our product information and documentation.
Our approach is based on a simple principle: the origin of a diamond should always be clear and readily identifiable to the customer. This supports transparent product information and ensures that customers can make an informed decision about the type of diamond they are purchasing.
04Conflict diamonds and the Kimberley Process
The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) is an international system established to prevent conflict diamonds from entering the legitimate diamond trade. It applies specifically to the international trade in rough natural diamonds.
VAALBERG does not purchase, hold or sell rough natural diamonds. Our collection consists exclusively of laboratory-grown diamonds, which are produced in controlled laboratory facilities rather than extracted from mines.
The Kimberley Process therefore does not apply to the diamonds offered by VAALBERG. We nevertheless maintain clear supplier documentation and product identification procedures to support transparency and responsible sourcing throughout our supply chain.
05Sanctions and trade restrictions
EU restrictive measures on Russian-origin diamonds — introduced under Regulation (EU) 833/2014 as amended, alongside the corresponding G7 measures — target diamonds mined, processed, or produced in Russia.
We do not source Russian-origin stones. As a laboratory-grown-only retailer, our goods fall outside the mined-origin scope of these measures, and our suppliers are required to operate in compliance with applicable EU sanctions regimes.
06Supplier due diligence
We buy through established trade suppliers rather than informal channels. Our requirements of them are:
- Every stone supplied with a valid report from a recognised independent laboratory.
- Laboratory-grown origin declared and documented, with no commingling of mined goods.
- Compliance with applicable EU sanctions and export-control rules.
- Traceability of each stone to its certificate, so any item we have sold can be identified after the fact.
Stones are inspected on receipt in Sweden before dispatch to the customer, and are checked against the accompanying certificate.
07Environmental claims
We do not make blanket claims that laboratory-grown diamonds are inherently “sustainable” or “eco-friendly”. Their environmental impact can vary depending on how and where they are produced.
At VAALBERG, we focus on what can be verified and documented, including the diamond's origin, certification and clear disclosure, rather than making environmental claims that cannot be substantiated for every diamond we offer.
08Buying with confidence
- 30-day returns. Return your purchase within 30 days for a full refund, subject to our return terms.
- Insured delivery. All shipments within the EU are fully insured during transit.
- Independent certification. Certified diamonds are accompanied by their corresponding laboratory grading report.
- EU consumer rights. All applicable statutory consumer rights under EU law apply in full and are not limited by the information provided on this page.
